Fostering Racial Equity | Panel and Networking Event

Thank you to all the attendees and panelists who participated in the Fostering Racial Equity panel and discussion in August! We had a wonderful turnout of structural engineering professionals, ranging from firm leaders to student interns across the Bay Area. A special thank you to SOM’s SF Office for hosting and The Jollof Kitchen for providing amazing food!

Description

According to the NCSEA SE3 Career Advancement topic brief, “White respondents were more likely than all other racial groups to report satisfaction [with career advancement].” These trends are common throughout data reported in NCSEA and SEAONC SE3 publications within our profession. SEAONC SE3 is hosting a panel to inspire conversations about fostering inclusivity and ensuring equitable access to opportunities within our profession – especially for underrepresented racial and ethnic groups. Panelists will discuss their personal experiences within the industry and practical strategies for advocating on behalf of themselves, colleagues, or employees.

All structural engineering professionals and students are encouraged to attend, especially those who are part of the BIPOC community. Come to the event ready to listen or actively participate by asking the panelists questions. Afterward, students and young professionals are invited to participate in a round of speed mentoring or join other attendees in networking to continue the discussion.
