Location: Zoom Meeting

Description:
The SEAONC SE3 Committee is committed to equipping our membership for and facilitating the difficult but necessary conversations on racial equity within our profession. These cohorts will provide a forum in which firm leaders can frankly discuss their commitments to and the challenges in implementing strategies for racial diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in their firms, the structural engineering industry, and future generations of structural engineers.

The long-term cohort program will be structured as follows:
  • Groups of 4 - 6 firm leaders, grouped based on size of firm
  • Cohorts will meet quarterly with our facilitator, Viva Asmelash, starting in March 2021
  • Each quarter will have a topic/theme with associated goals
    • Themes will including DEI recruiting and hiring practices, inclusive office culture, engaging employees in public service/DEI efforts, and developing DEI conscious leaders
    • Viva will introduce the topic, guide a discussion, and then hold informal “office hours” to answer individual questions on strategies that firm leaders are currently attempting to implement
    • Quarterly meetings will include pre- and post-session assignments
  • Cohorts will meet monthly on their own in between sessions with Viva
    • SEAONC SE3 will send cohorts a discussion guide
    • Individuals in the group will rotate acting as moderator. Alternatively, the group can request that an SE3 member act as moderator/facilitator
    • SEAONC SE3 encourages cohort participants to take notes during and after their meetings
    • Individuals are asked to commit to 1-2 hours preparing for each cohort meeting

In order to keep the program productive and to maximize participation, this event will be limited to 24 firm leaders. Registration for this program is first-come-first-served, so please register as soon as possible. We ask that all participants come into the program with an open mind and the goal of improving their firms and the larger structural engineering community.

Please note: SEAONC SE3 hosted a similar one-time Firm Leader Roundtable event in October 2020. This program is open to both Roundtable participants and new firm leaders.

Registration for this event is required and has opened! Please visit the SEAONC Event Page for more details.
