Program Description

SEAONC SE3 is proud to introduce its second symposium on Friday, May 10th 2019 at SPUR San Francisco. This half-day event is for engineers of all levels, business owners, human resource managers, partners, and all professions in the A/E/C industry who are interested in promoting discussion on engagement and equity in the structural engineering profession.

The theme of the 2019 
#ChangeXSE3 symposium is A Changing Workplace - How to Engage, Retain, and Secure the Future of Our Profession.

The event will open with a keynote from a researcher on organizational psychology, followed by an an overview of the 2018 survey findings on employee retention and career development.

Attendees will have an opportunity to collaborate and share during the planned breakout sessions on focused topics including: creating corporate culture, career trajectories and alignment of firm and personal values, and establishing a diverse and inclusive environment in the workplace. The c
losing session will be a discussion on maintaining corporate culture and the value of a structural engineer.

A networking social will follow the daytime activities in the SPUR reception area.

Breakout Session B1: Building our Culture
This breakout session will briefly discuss the difference between corporate values and corporate culture.  We will then dive into what defines good corporate culture, how it evolves, and how to influence it.  We will discuss how having an inclusive, dynamic corporate culture positively affects hiring and retaining quality staff.  Attendees at all levels should walk away with ideas of ways to enhance their company's corporate culture.

This breakout session will incorporate storytelling and interactive, small group activities to encourage participants to reflect on and share their own experiences. Specifically, we hope to provide participants (including both individual contributors and firm leadership) with tools and actionable insights to take back to their own firms and instill a more inclusive work environment.  ​
